Since a young person, I’ve always loved to draw and paint. My parents saw this and nurtured this love by finding me a wonderful art studio, Emily Sumrall‘s studio, where my love grew to talent.

Since a young person, I’ve always loved to draw and paint. My parents saw this and nurtured this love by finding me a wonderful art studio, Emily Sumrall‘s studio, where my love grew to talent.
When pursuing my bachelor‘s degree, I decided to take a different path - business. After graduating from the University of Southern Mississippi, with a bachelor‘s in Business Administration, I began working for Marriott. Feeling unfulfilled, I applied to a summer art program at Studio Art Centers International (SACI) in Florence, Italy and was accepted. From there my life took a different path, filled with enjoyment and love. I studied studio art and went back to school to receive my alternative certification in elementary education from the University of Holy Cross. While teaching, I continued to work towards my art with Carol Scott at UHC and then went on to NSULA to earn my Masters of Art degree. I continue to teach but now I use my elementary education background as well as my studio art background to teach k-8 art in New Orleans and produce my own art.
I always considered myself a painter or a sketch artists but working at the exceptional school that I work and being exposed to artists/teachers like Jan Hutchison, Blainey Kern, and Elizabeth Peyton I found that I am truly a mixed media artists. I love working in clay, pastels, oils, acrylics, papier mache… I love it all and will try anything!
I’ve been inspired by so many things: my family - my grandfather “PopPop” would love when I returned from a trip to tell him what I learned in a class I took or the museums I went to or from the people I met. One day he smiled at me and said “You are just a curious student of life, I don’t think you will ever stop learning and growing” an
I’ve been inspired by so many things: my family - my grandfather “PopPop” would love when I returned from a trip to tell him what I learned in a class I took or the museums I went to or from the people I met. One day he smiled at me and said “You are just a curious student of life, I don’t think you will ever stop learning and growing” and that has inspired me to keep doing just that! - traveling inspires me to see things in different ways and lights, my children inspire me to stay positive and try new things, my husband inspires me to keep things interesting, and my students inspire me to learn more so I can show them more!
I am a mother of two wonderful girls (Zofia, 5 and Lena, 2) and wife to a terrific man and high school basketball coach. Life is busy… and hard… and I’m so glad to be able to get back into my art and create again - with my kids, my students, and on my own.
